Librarian Shiori is a typical bookworm, as she fills her time reading books in the school library. Unable to express herself freely due to her fear of being misunderstood, she is usually awkward in a crowd. Yet when the students inquire about the books in the library, she is like a moving library index, able to pinpoint what they are after. As they clash, which maiden will get the backing from the HanaKana camp—the energetic Kuroi Mato, or the silent Shiomiya Shiori?

As two silhouettes across the vista instigate their moves, I trudge toward the scene. Hiding behind an abandoned bunker, I bear witness to a clash like none I’ve witnessed before. The bewitchingly pretty and longhaired angel levitates, her wings spanning majestically across the horizon. As she prepares her assault, a gigantic complex materialises behind her. Proclaiming the weapon as the fabled Uranus system, the pink-haired deity introduces herself as Ikaros, much to her opponent’s chagrin. The silent, android-looking maiden introduces herself as Nagato Yuki, as a mark of respect to her enemy. As the atmosphere heats up, I notice that Yuki is chanting something inaudible at a rapid rate. What follows that really befuddles me, as reality seems to bend and the projectiles hurled towards her seem redirected by the shorthaired, stoic maiden. Even more amazing is the fact that the landscape has changed from a hillside to a desert, with a storm swirling around them. As I leave the scene, the one thing I still wonder is the winner of this bout.

If the first round of the Topaz Period witnessed an intra-camp duel, then the second serves us a series clash heralding from another prominent seiyū. Both Sanzen’in Nagi and Louise Vallière share striking similarities between one another. Typical of Kugimiya Rie’s characters, the maidens come from very wealthy families, and hence, aren’t well versed in normal household chores. A likeable butler and an adept maid tend to the golden-haired heiress of the Sanzen’in manor’s everyday needs. On the other hand, the pink haired magus has her familiar’s maid doing the same job. These aristocrats are imperfect, with Nagi leading a life atypical to a normal high-echelon courtesan, while Louise is said to be a failure because of her inability to master any of the four elements. Moreover, their sharp tongues and abrasive natures are all plain to be seen, and usually directed at their love interests. Yet underneath their imperfections, they strive to be the dearest to their cherished ones. Which tsundere will be favoured by the Kugyū camp as these two ojō-sama square off against each other?

What does it mean to be part of a school club? Despite appearing very similar and both being main characters with short brown hair, Yui and Nagisa present very different answers to that question. For Yui, she never really had much love for music in the first place and joined the Light Music Club under the mistaken impression that it revolved around playing simple instruments like castanets. However, it soon became obvious to her that the most important thing of all was being with her friends, something she threw herself into with enthusiasm. As long as they had fun, nothing else mattered! Due to her ill health, Nagisa was never able to join her fellow students when they put on school plays. Collecting manga and anime DVDs, gaming, and even cosplaying show how seriously she is invested in her hobby. Both are attempting to achieve their goals, but whose ideals will be realized?

An unusual encounter with Isurugi Noe causes Nakagami Shin'ichirō to find himself at the end of her actions. As he spends time with her, Shin'ichirō finds out that Noe, while enigmatic and straightforward, is a lonely girl who longs for the support of anyone who can help her fly away from her fears and worries. Shin'ichirō wonders if he can not only be the man who can help her find her missing tears, but also the man who will be able help her and himself ascend to the goal they want to reach. Nagase Jun'ichi and Katagiri Yūhi were well off at first, but a slight miscommunication created some distance between the two. When Yūhi claimed that Jun'ichi was the fiance that she was looking for, all were taken aback by this sudden information. Between a boy who was known to be a delinquent in his past and a girl who grew up with a royal background, such a relationship would be odd, yet the two find things about each other that they have not realized for themselves. With only three more matches to go, the competition becomes fierce, especially for those who are going for a last minute dash to make it to the Postseason. However, if she is distracted for too long, she may lose any chance of moving on to the next round. Sakura Kyōko can easily be such a person who can spear any of her hopes to the ground. Kyōko's never-say-die attitude and careful way of doing things have led her to success throughout her many missions. Kyōko is ready to stop her at any time, but if there is one good trait about Haruna, it is her stubbornness and inability to say “no” when things do not go her way. Can Kyōko take down this magically armed character, or will Haruna show her what a real magical girl should be like?

Both Katsura Hinagiku and Hiiragi Kagami are known as tsundere, and they both having weaknesses that are difficult to overcome. While Nagi doesn’t regularly attend school and Haruhi does, neither is much interested in their courses. Bernkastel has a quiet and reserved personality, mostly doing things from the sidelines at her pace. When the situation calls for it, she will reset time and help others get away from their fated deaths. Shirakawa Kotori is a kind and intelligent student who is known to have a beautiful singing voice. Kotori has the ability to read people's minds due to her inability to trust people when she does not know what they are truly thinking, about. Ushiromiya Maria possesses a vast amount of knowledge about the occult, especially witches. Every time an odd phenomenon happens that cannot be solved through logical means, Maria believes that magic has to be involved. Which team of magically affiliated girls will have things done their way when all is said and done?

It is not common for two contestants of the same series to share a near identical number of fans, especially when it comes to the higher end of the popularity spectrum. One such exception is the pair consisting of Sengoku Nadeko and Senjōgahara Hitagi. In their first two years in ISML, the two ended up finishing neck-and-neck, each taking 15th one year and 16th the other. This year, the story is more or less the same. Going into the fifth round of the Topaz Period, the two girls are locked into a tie in terms of wins with 24 apiece. With positioning going into the Postseason being extremely critical, a win here could make all the difference—between an early exit and first-round survival—when the Regular Season reaches its end. And so, as the snake bares its fangs and the crab readies its pincers, which spirit will give its host the power to defeat the other?

True friendship is not something you see every day. In a world full of deception and backstabbing, finding two people who wholeheartedly trust and support each another in everything is a rarity. But today, ISML voters are lucky to be graced with the opportunity to witness the close friendship that Hirasawa Yui and Nakano Azusa share—a bond that has already warmed the hearts of countless people. Despite being the older one, Yui constantly acts childish when she's with Azusa. Her obsession with sweets and tea has at times frustrated her musically dedicated kōhai. Still, Azusa holds her senior in high regard, knowing that Yui is an extremely caring individual who is also very talented, often pulling off unbelievable performances when the need arises. Undoubtedly, the two would prefer not to fight today. However, they know this annual battle is inevitable if they wish to participate in ISML. As the two guitarists walk across the battlefield today, they know they must give it their all for the sake of not disgracing the other. In the end, whose song will sway the voters to her side?

The battlefield: a peak cloaked in darkness, the glow of the stars the only illumination on two figures approaching. Both appear to have female forms, and no light yet reflects off of armor or weapons; however, both have the gait of warriors headed into battle. One of the forms suddenly glints as the light catches armor being cast into place, and they seem to begin to pick up speed. The other suddenly spawns cherry blossoms before she breaks into a similar run. The clash of two blades casts light over their faces: one young woman, Hinagiku Katsura by name, is unprotected by the soft glow of armor, her long pink hair a defining characteristic instead. The other, more mature, visage of Saber is no less feminine, but just as unfalteringly countenanced. They push their blades from each other and the ring of steel on steel resonates through the dark of night. Unable to see, I can only wait for the battle between these two lionesses, fighting for the pride of the Topaz Necklace, to end. Which of these determined young women will walk away from this battle—the 'King of Knights', or the fighter for justice?

Sisters are there to help each other out, even if they might think ill of the other. Knowing about her sister's ill condition, Misaka Kaori created a wall, in fear of feeling the pain of losing someone dear to her. However, Misaka Shiori wished for that, for she did not want to live her life believing that her own sister did not care about her during her time of need. It was through Shiori's passion to be with her that allowed Kaori to open up a bit more and regain time that was lost. As twins, Sonozaki Mion and Shion would always take advantage of their identical looks to get away from situations they did not wish to be part of. Mion has a tougher exterior, able to show leadership and perform labor during fun times and tough situations. Shion is the more sly and playful sister, able to read situations and bring out the best in people when they do not realize it. Which of these sisters will be able to shine to their full potential when all is said and done?

While they do not consider each other as partners, by the end of the day, they are always found together. Kirishima Shōko's love for Sakamoto Yūji seems to hold no bounds, as she would do anything to be by his side and make sure no one else bothers their private life. Oftentimes, Yūji wonders why such a beautiful, intelligent, and well-respected girl like her can love someone who has treated her poorly and hardly reciprocates her feelings. However, it was due to Sakamoto Yūji's bravery and kindness in the past that Shōko became infatuated with him and decided to grow up to become the proper bride that he desired. For a long time, Kanzaki H. Aria has been looking for a partner equal to her fighting capabilities and now believes that Tōyama Kinji is a person worthy to be her partner. At first, Kinji wanted to keep a low-profile life without having to deal with any troublesome activities, but he found himself saving Aria and helping her from behind time and time again. Together, they would fight against a common enemy and solve the various mysteries that surround them and their school. Which partnership will rise when the battle is over?

They were here before the change, and they are still here after. Even back during the old ISML system where both the strong veterans and feisty newcomers were pitted against each other, both Charlotte Dunois and Yui managed to make names for themselves by earning spots in the Postseason during their first year of participation. And although the two were given unfortunate first-round exits, the experience in itself was more than worth their efforts. This year, with the new system in place, both girls have benefited greatly. While Yui finished in the bottom half of the Top 16 last year, she currently finds herself near the top of the Nova leaderboard this time around, and in a comfortable position going into the Postseason. Similarly, Charlotte has climbed her way up a few places in the standings compared to last year, and looks to continue doing so, starting with a win here. So in this battle where both the contestants are considered members of the "elite" in their division, which one will prevail?

Two young women face each other with shinai drawn and with the spirits of tigers practically visible behind them. Hinagiku has only a predilection for helping felines out of trees, despite her own fear of heights, to speak for the nature of her animal spirit, while Taiga has the spirit of the great cats practically written into her name. While Taiga did run for the presidency of her own school, her fierceness did not overcome the student body, leading her friend to win instead. Hinagiku is the Student Council President, though, as well as the captain of the Hakuō Kendo Club. Both girls fight for the honor of their friends and loved ones; however, which one will end up with the victory in this match?

Both of these fighters with golden hair and twin-tails have their goals they're willing to fight for; Yami is more aggressive in doing so, as an assassin tasked to kill an earthling, but Nagi is no slouch in fighting others for the one she has fallen head-over-heels for either, and generally attacking him for ‘indiscrete actions' towards other females, which he is immensely prone to. The two share a love of literature, though what they consider such is vastly different. While Nagi can usually be found in her mansion reading one manga or another, Yami travels, and, having no place to call a true home, can be found either in a bookstore, searching out new material, on a bench somewhere within the city, or at some vendor, purchasing her favored food, taiyaki, to snack on while reading. Will it be the experienced fighter of Konjiki no Yami who wins this match, or the heir of the Sanzen'in fortune?

Today, we honor the maids that have worked hard to keep society in place. Tsuchimikado Maika is a sophisticated girl who attends a maid school. Maika easily compliments her hard-working personality with her high-class cooking and cleaning skills. Shinōji Matsurika works under the Miyamae family and will do anything her master commands her to do. Although quiet and nearly expressionless, Matsurika has a sharp tongue and is blunt about her opinions on others. As secretary of the student council, Harukaze Chiharu keeps a serious demeanor about how things should be done to and for the school. No one expected someone of her status to also work at a maid cafe and become highly skilled in that field. Angelina Nanatsu Sewell, or “Ange” for short, is a kind, sweet girl who is ready to help anyone out. Ange does not like to be behind and will do anything to make herself better as a maid. Will it be the team of Maika and Matsurika, or Chihari and Ange, who will finish this job in one clean sweep?

A second is all it takes to change someone's life. It may have been a bad first impression, an awkward moment at the bottom of the hill, or an immediate argument after an unimpressive performance, but even these subtle moments can slowly bring out the best in people and reveal the feelings that are deep within one's heart. From a short conversation, each character traveled the road in finding out what one must truly do to gain happiness or a sense of relief. Developing each other's characters and helping one another grow as a person, friend, and lover, they find themselves doing what they could not have done had their significant other not been by his or her side. To remind himself why he loves baseball so much, to understand what his father went through to make him the man he is today, to continue to move around and become passionate in something even when one cannot move, to forgive oneself of selfishness and perform genuinely on stage while stepping forward with pride—these are the results of a chance encounter. Now, hand-in-hand, two walk forward, expecting nothing more but to give it their best for one final push to the next chapter...

Just like last year, she continues to be unstoppable, shining with the light of an immortal angel. Looking to extend her unprecedented Regular Season winning streak to 84—and in the process, securing her second perfect season—Tachibana Kanade readies herself for a battle against Gokō Ruri, a familiar foe and fellow Nova elite. In their Diamond 6 match-up last year, Kanade triumphed with a convincing 1294-vote victory. While the strengths of both these girls have remained relatively stable over the course of this year, the surprising, statistics-defying results that typically occur in Round 7s prove that not everything is set in stone just yet. And now that she has yet another chance to try and take down Kanade, Ruri is set on accomplishing what she, and all those before her, have previously failed to do. Although the two enter the battle with different goals in mind, one thing's for sure: both Tenshi and Kuroneko look to finish the Regular Season with a bang. In the end, will Tachibana Kanade further make a case for herself as the strongest contestant in ISML history, or will Gokō Ruri show that the bigger they are, the harder they fall?

But standing in her way is the time-defying contestant that is Aisaka Taiga. Having not had any major material to aid her since 2009, it comes as a shock to many that Taiga has stabilized, let alone increased, in strength. And although history has not been kind to the Palmtop Tiger in terms of her previous encounters with Shana, this might be the year where it all changes. The stakes are high and the pressure is on. When this clash between these two volatile girls comes to an end, who will emerge victorious?

While both teams have similar personalities, each bring a unique flavor to their character and relationship. Toshinō Kyōko is an upbeat girl whose fantasies can become wild as soon as she starts thinking about something. Funami Yui is the more levelheaded of the two and usually has to make sure that Kyōko does not get into any trouble. Because the two have known each other for so long, both easily understand each other well enough to react to each other’s qualms and various antics. Kurata Sayuri seems to be laid back and finds positive aspects of people whom she meets. Kawasumi Mai comes off as the mysterious type, having little to say but reveals great courage when it counts. While their friendship was not as long as their opponents, both were able to click as they found a piece of themselves inside each other. Which team will prove that there is much more about them than meets the eye?

They see each other as someone to rely on, as someone to talk to seriously about personal difficulties and struggles. They are each the first person to protect the other from harm and be beside them when a situation goes awry. They also see each other as their protector and savior, thus one of the many reasons why they trust each other so well. From temporarily breaking her fear of heights and becoming the voice of reason when he is caught in an uncomfortable position to telling her supervisors that he will play his trump card if they decide to pull a stunt like that on her again and saving him from intergalactic life forms and computer viruses, it is without question that they became a major part of their lives. However, is it possible to be more than just friends and still hold the same conversations that they have had prior to the realization of their feelings? A simple gesture can open up one's heart, but the interactions between the characters can reveal feelings that were not meant to be. And so, they continue on, waiting for the right moment to convey what is on their mind. Thus, the sun and stars align themselves, granting each group a chance to work together and find their true sense of self.

With the end of Topaz 7, another year's Regular Season draws to a close. For some girls it marks the end of their journey; for others it simply marks a short intermission before a greater struggle. Yet for seven girls, there is one more prize to fight for before the final curtain falls. For Yui, the impeccably cheery comrade and friend of the Afterlife Battlefront, Akiyama Mio, bassist and invaluable friend of the band Hokagō Tea Time, Kashiwazaki Sena, the popular and beautiful member of Neighbor's Club, Shana, the fiery and dutiful protector of the world, Kanzaki H. Aria, the "Quadra Aria" who dances in battle with impeccable skill, Nagato Yuki, the irreplaceable member and support of her brigade, and Hasegawa Kobato, the somewhat eccentric but loyal little sister, the splendor of the Topaz Necklace shines before them, waiting to bestow itself upon the victor. In the final battle of this year's Regular Season, to whom will you present your favor?

If there is anything that these seven girls have in common, it is their perseverance. Konoe Subaru is willing to do whatever it takes to serve her best friend as a butler, even if it means going to school as a male without having anyone detect her true gender. Mikazuki Yozora believes that her friend will remember who she is, and thus created a club for the two of them to share. Yuzuriha Inori's interaction with her friends reveals her hidden emotions as well as her feelings of love. Kuroi Mato does not wish to see any of her friends suffer and will do anything to make them happy again. Sakagami Tomoyo holds a strong wish to become the student council president so that she can preserve the sakura trees in the area. Due to the pressures of the Einzbern family, Illyasviel von Einzbern will do whatever it takes to win the Holy Grail War so that it can be in the hands of her family. Louise Vallière tries hard to become a mage that people can look up to instead of make fun of. Which of the seven girls can hold her beliefs true to the very end?

Despite having a common goal and working as a team, the bonds between the two groups highly contrast with each other. While Kirigaya Kazuto is mostly seen as a cold loner, he has a kind heart and values his friends dearly. He tries to help his friends whenever he is down, and his bravery is admired by all. His sincerity changes Yūki Asuna's personality from a serious gamer to one who is more lenient and laid-back about how to treat the game. Asuna sees Kazuto as someone whom she can talk to about personal matters as well as ask for advice about a situation at hand. Although Emiya Kiritsugu and Saber are seen as a dangerous team to come across, their morals easily clash with one another. Kiritsugu holds a strong belief in saving as many people as he can, even if it means killing others in a tactical fashion that could also be labeled as evil. Saber has a strong sense of pride and chivalry, believing that battles must be honorable, as if dancing for the gods, rather than handled with backhanded tactics. The two must reconcile and realize the common road ahead of them if they wish to carve out a path to victory. Will Kazuto and Asuna's teamwork be enough to stop them, or can Kiritsugi and Saber win this battle together?
